My husband Rick and I took our youngest two kids to Seattle for a 36 hour escape. Kristen was home for 5 days before heading back to college, and had never been to Seattle. Subtract 10 hours driving there and back, and 10 hours in a hotel room, and we were left with exactly 16 hours for some FUN!
Our wanderings took us out of the city and by ferry to Bainbridge Island and then over to Poulsbo. The kids dug up a bunch of clams on the deserted beach to take home and steam. Rick announced that the entire hillside along the beach was overflowing with wild blackberry bushes. It was low tide and we could walk right up the the berry covered embankment and pick ourselves blue in the face, literally!
We had a great seafood lunch on the seashore and requested a couple of extra to-go boxes. We walked back to the the overflowing bank of berry bushes and had fun filling our boxes up. Our goal was to have enough berries left after we gorged on them to bake the pie that dreams are made of.
We did, and I made such a pie. It even surpassed our high expectations. It was Pie Heaven!
Worlds Best Blackberry Pie
8 C blackberries from the seaside near Seattle
1/2 C tapioca
3/4 C sugar
1 TBS butter
Mix the berries, tapioca and sugar. Let sit for 15 minutes. Place into a 9-10" pie pan lined with crust. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust and cut slits for steam to escape. Bake at 400' for 50 minutes or until juice bubbles pop slowly.
ENJOY!

Yum! Sounds like you had fun and of course as a geek I thought you were talking about a Blackberry :-)
I, too, thought you were talking about a blackberry phone that allowed you to take a vacation.
Janna, oh my my my, lookie at your pie! Now of course I am hungry as can be. I would be jealous but I did just do my ocean get away, so I grateful for that. But the pie, oh oh oh, does that look good. And clams too? I love steamers... did you have the steamers with corn on the cob and some fresh tomatoes? Then the pie? With vanilla ice cream on the side? Oh, ok, I am jealous, I can't help myself. :D
How funny that your minds all went to your Smart Phones! I'm counting down the days to my next closing, when I will upgrade to an IPhone. I'll have my blackberries in pie, thank you!
Andrea - We did have a clam feast, but on the Pier in Seattle. With the whole bucket dumped on the table. Three kinds of crab, clams, mussels, shrimp, sausage, red potatoes and corn on the cob. Sour dough bread and of course lots of lemony drawn butter..... I love Seattle!
Janna, that pie looks delicious! Sounds like a fun trip!
Janna- Your making me hungry. If you ever get the chance, take a ride up to Coupeville. There is place there named Toby's Tavern. My uncle is part owner of it. The food is excellent.
PS- You are killing me on the points race.
Kevin - I'll keep Coupeville in mind, sounds intriguing. Sorry about the points, nothing personal! I haven't been racing you, I was chasing Christina, and now I'm after Brian. All in good fun, of course!
My favorite dessert is pie! This looks so delicious. What a beautiful crust and I love how the berries have seeped out over the top!
What a lovely pie, Janna. Wish I could have a piece. I am sure you would have won a Grand Champion Ribbon if you would have entered it in the Kootenai County Fair last week.
What a beautiful area, I've been in the winter, but not the summer...the pie looks delicious too!
Gorgeous pie! Will you bake me a pie for my next birthday? :) We're heading to Seaside, Oregon for the long weekend and I'm looking forward to some fabulous seafood to go with the R & R!
Janna, this sounds great. I wish I had the ingredients right now!
